Apple's Latest M4 Chips Power Up MacBook Pro Lineup
Apple recently announced the launch of new M4 chips for its MacBook Pro models. The M4 chips, including the M4 Pro and M4 Max variants, are set to provide users with increased power and performance capabilities. This move follows the trend of previous Apple Silicon generations, offering baseline chip options alongside more powerful 'Pro' and 'Max' iterations.
Upgrade for MacBook Air Models
In addition to the MacBook Pro lineup, Apple also confirmed upgrades for MacBook Air models. The 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Airs, which currently feature M2 and M3 chips, will now come with a base memory spec of 16GB, up from 8GB previously. Despite these upgrades, prices remain unchanged, starting from ₹99,900 onwards.
New M4 Chip Family Details
The M4 chip family introduces the M4 chip, previously seen in iPad Pro devices, iMac, and Mac Mini. The M4 chip can be configured with up to a 10-core CPU, a 10-core GPU, and a 16-core neural engine. On the other hand, the M4 Pro chip offers up to 14 CPU cores, divided into 10 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores, along with a 20-core GPU.
According to Apple, the M4 Pro chip is up to 1.9 times faster than the CPU of the M1 Pro and up to 2.1 times faster than the latest AI PC chip. The M4 Max chip, built on the 3-nanometer architecture, supports up to 128GB of fast unified memory and up to 546GB/s of memory bandwidth.
Enhanced Media Engine and Performance
The M4 Max chip also features an enhanced media engine with dual video encode engines and dual ProRes accelerators, catering to video professionals. The chip is built on the 3-nanometer architecture and supports large language models with up to 200 billion parameters.
