The gender identity of Imane Khelif, the Algerian boxer who won gold in women's boxing at the 2024 Summer Olympics, is under scrutiny due to a leaked medical report revealing internal testicles and XY chromosomes.

Gender Controversy Surrounding Imane Khelif

In a surprising turn of events, the gender identification of Imane Khelif, the Algerian boxer who recently won gold in women's boxing at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, has come under scrutiny due to a leaked medical report.

According to the document obtained by French journalist Djaffar Ait Aoudia, Khelif has internally testicles and XY chromosomes, hinting at a disorder called 5-alpha reductase insufficiency. The report, drafted by experts from the Kremlin-BicĂȘtre Hospital in Paris and the Mohamed Lamine Debaghine Hospital in Algiers in June 2023, describes Khelif's biological traits, including the presence of internal testicles and the absence of a uterus. Additionally, an MRI revealed the presence of a micropenis, as reported by Redux.

This revelation, however, is not entirely new as it was previously disclosed that Khelif has XY chromosomes. Back in 2023, the International Boxing Association (IBA) banned the boxer from participating in the world championship gold medal fight in New Delhi.

Outrage and Responses

The leaked medical report sparked massive outrage, with several users on social media condemning Khelif and demanding actions against him. Some users called for Italian boxer Angela Carini to be given the gold medal instead, questioning Khelif's qualifications and past performance.

In response to the release of the French medical records, Piers Morgan emphasized that Khelif is indeed a man. The controversy surrounding Khelif's gender even became a political issue in the US, with former President Donald Trump using it to criticize the Biden-Harris administration's gender policies in sports.

Khelif, who previously stated that she was born a woman, faced backlash and cyber harassment from various public figures and was compelled to file a criminal complaint against J.K. Rowling and Elon Musk for alleged acts of aggravated cyber harassment.
