DMK Challenges Waqf Bill in Supreme Court: Stalin Leads Protest in Tamil Nadu Assembly

DMK Challenges Waqf Bill in Supreme Court
The DMK, under the leadership of M.K. Stalin, has announced plans to move the Supreme Court against the recent passing of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, in the Lok Sabha. The decision to challenge the bill comes after a 12-hour debate in the Lok Sabha which resulted in a vote of 288-232 in favor of the bill.
Stalin Spearheads Protest in Assembly
In a show of opposition, Stalin, along with DMK MLAs and legislators from its allies, wore black badges in the Tamil Nadu Assembly to protest the passing of the bill. Stalin criticized the timing of the bill's passage and deemed it as an attack on the constitution of India.
AIADMK Extends Support
The main opposition party in Tamil Nadu, AIADMK, extended its support to the DMK in opposing the bill. AIADMK MLA S. Velumani affirmed the party's solidarity with the ruling party against the contentious bill.
BJP Condemns DMK's Actions
On the other hand, BJP Tamil Nadu President K. Annamalai criticized Stalin for what he termed as theatrical actions in the Assembly to appease a segment of the minority vote bank. Annamalai accused DMK of using the issue for electoral gains.
Stalin's Announcement on Statues
Amidst the parliamentary standoff, Stalin announced plans to erect statues of Karl Marx and Periyar in the state. He emphasized the role of Marx's ideologies in global revolutions and the quest for equal opportunities.
In addition to this, Stalin also wrote to PM Narendra Modi seeking intervention to resolve the Katchatheevu issue with Sri Lanka to secure the release of imprisoned fishermen and their boats.
