Actress Hansika Motwani and her mother move Bombay High Court to quash criminal case filed by sister-in-law Nancy James for alleged cruelty and harassment.

Actress Hansika Motwani and her mother Jyoti Motwani have approached the Bombay High Court seeking to quash a criminal case filed against them by Hansika's sister-in-law, Nancy James, alleging cruelty and harassment. In her petition, Motwani claims that the case was filed against them as a retaliatory measure. Nancy James, a television actress, was married to Motwani's brother, Shant, but the couple decided to part ways in December 2022. James filed an FIR against Hansika and her mother on December 18, 2024, alleging that Hansika demanded ₹20 lakh from her family for wedding expenses, luxury gifts, and jewellery. The prosecution also claims that Hansika influenced Shant to turn against his wife. The petition further states that the Motwanis installed CCTV cameras inside James' home to monitor her activities without her consent.

In her petition filed through advocate Drishti Khurana, Motwani stated that she had loaned ₹27 lakh to James during the wedding and demanded its return. The FIR appears to be a retaliatory measure aimed at pressuring Motwani and her family into a financial settlement in the ongoing marital dispute, the petition stated. The allegations of physical assault and verbal abuse were denied, citing lack of evidence.
