TriCity Metro Project Study: Feasibility and Viability Explained

The detailed project report (DPR) for the Tricity Metro Project in Chandigarh has not been submitted to the Central Government, according to the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. The UMTA was constituted for this purpose in April 2023, and subsequent meetings have been held to study the project's financial viability. The city's MP, Manish Tewari, expressed concern over the lack of progress in submitting a proposal for financial closure on the project despite its reported financial viability. Relevant national policies on urban transport have been cited as guiding principles, but there seems to be a delay in moving the project forward. Last year, similar concerns were raised in Parliament, highlighting the need for concrete steps towards implementation.
