AIIMS Delhi's Trauma Centre has expanded its surgical capabilities by adding five new state-of-the-art modular operation theatres, enabling it to handle a higher volume of surgeries for accident cases each month.

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences-Delhi’s (AIIMS) Trauma Centre announced the addition of five state-of-the-art modular operation theatres (OTs), bringing the total number of OTs to 11 at the Jai Prakash Narayan Apex Trauma Centre. With these new OTs, the country's standalone trauma centre in the public sector will be able to handle double the number of surgeries, nearly 2,500, in accident cases each month.

The five new OTs feature special capabilities such as handling multi-specialty cases, organ harvesting procedures, integration of advanced technology, minimal infection risk, and radio safety. The expansion of the Trauma Centre's OT facilities is crucial in managing the surgical workload it faces.

Additionally, the OTs are spacious, ranging from 58-72 square metres, allowing for multi-specialty cases and easy organ retrieval. Advanced technology, reduced infection risk, and training capabilities for surgeons are key features of the new OTs.

The Trauma Centre has also increased its bed capacity to 259 beds and expanded emergency services. The addition of these new OTs has alleviated the bottleneck in surgical theatres, allowing for a more efficient workflow in handling surgical cases at the centre.
