Manoj Kumar, the legendary actor and filmmaker, breathed his last at the age of 87. He had disclosed to Hindustan Times almost a decade ago how he had generously donated the full sum he received for the national award for his 1965 film 'Shaheed' to Bhagat Singh's family. Manoj Kumar, affectionately called 'Bharat Kumar', passed away at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai. The cause of death was identified as cardiogenic shock due to acute myocardial infarction, a severe heart attack. He had been battling decompensated liver cirrhosis in the past few months, which had contributed to his declining health. Throughout his illustrious career, Manoj Kumar was known for his roles in patriotic films like 'Shaheed', 'Upkar', and 'Rang De Basanti', which resonated deeply with the Indian audience. His significant contributions to Indian cinema earned him numerous accolades, including a Padma Shri and seven Filmfare Awards in various categories. In 1992, the government of India honored him with the Padma Shri for his immense contribution to Indian arts. His legacy was further solidified when he received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2015, the highest recognition in Indian cinema.
