The K-pop group Kiss of Life recently issued a formal apology following criticism from fans for their portrayal of Black culture during a livestream event. The video, which featured members Julie, Belle, Natty, and Haneul in outfits and hairstyles associated with Black culture, was deemed offensive and stereotypical by netizens.
Internet users expressed agitation over the videos and clips from the livestream, which went viral on social media, showcasing the singers rapping and freestyle dancing to 'old-school hip hop vibes.' In response to the backlash, Kiss of Life, also known as Kiof, released a statement through S2 Entertainment, apologizing for the discomfort caused by the content.
The apology acknowledged the group's oversight in recognizing the negative cultural implications of their portrayal and vowed to approach cultural references with greater caution in the future. S2 Entertainment also stated that any derogatory content related to the incident has been removed from their channels.
