Harvard University takes disciplinary action against a pro-Palestinian student group for violating campus rules, amid threats from the Trump administration to cut funding over handling of antisemitism.

Harvard University imposed disciplinary measures against the Harvard Undergraduate Palestine Solidarity Committee for co-sponsoring a rally that blocked campus entrances and used amplified sound, resulting in probation until June 30. The group, known as PSC, is now barred from campus resources. The university stated that adherence to its policies is essential for fostering free expression on campus. Elite colleges face federal scrutiny for managing disruptive student protests following the 2023 Hamas attack on Israel and the subsequent retaliation. The Trump administration is reviewing grants and contracts worth billions, accusing Harvard of failing to combat antisemitism. Princeton and Columbia are also targeted, with Columbia agreeing to administrative demands to unlock frozen funding. A recent protest at Harvard Yard, with around 300 participants, criticized faculty changes and accused the university of fascism under the Trump administration. PSC's probation in March 2024 was followed by a suspension the next month for violating protest guidelines, as reported by the Crimson. The group disputed its involvement in the recent protest and criticized the university for not providing a substantive basis for the probation decision. Harvard announced a freeze on faculty and staff hiring last month to maintain financial flexibility amid uncertain federal policy changes and their impact. Despite its substantial endowment, the university depends on federal funding for scientific research. More stories like this can be found on Bloomberg.com. © 2025 Bloomberg L.P.
